This is a Quality CD that compiles Cast Member Interviews from The Flintstones television series, circa 1964-1965 and Promo spots for the show. The interviews include Alan Reed (Fred Flintstone), Jean VanderPyl (Wilma and Pebbles) and then NEW cast member Gerry Johnson (who replaced Bea Benederet as Betty Rubble in 1964). Interestingly, an inteview with Mel Blanc (Barney Rubble), does not exist in this set. Probably availability or contractual in nature, yet, we have all heard much about Mel Blanc, (one of the kings of voice characterization) so his absence give the listener an opportunity to focus on the other cast members who rarely got a chance to speak for themselves, particularly then. The Promo Spots are performed by Alan Reed as Fred Flintstone and were meant to be used as voice over reminder spots on radio and over the end credits of other ABC Network programming of the day. They are well produced and very amusing. Reed is right in character as Fred. Very folksy and enthusiastic.

The tracks you will hear on this CD are compiled from several unique sources that were never sold to the public. They were ABC promotional recordings that were pressed in small quantities and sent to radio stations to help promote the popular TV series. Alan Reed is particularly interesting as he goes into great depth about his career and extensive work in radio. He also talks about the coming season of The Flintstones and mentions some plot lines for the characters as well as how the cast works together. All great behind the scenes information that one rarely hears.

These spots have not been heard since 1964 and 1965 and the fact that this was a very limited, industry promotional recording would indicate that there were few of these LPs made and even fewer surviving. The recordings are over 40 years old, but the sound quality is very good and the variety and subject matter is of unparalleled uniqueness and interest to even the casual viewer of the classic animated cartoon series of the 1960s!
